High school student Matthew Griffin, dressed in tribal clothing,
presented Pastfinders with the history of the Black Seminoles.
Run-away slaves joined the Seminole tribe in Florida but with
the Second Seminole War starting in 1835, the Seminoles were
removed to Oklahoma along with the blacks. Many blacks fled from
Oklahoma to Mexico. Matthew and his uncle answered many
questions from the audience.
They brought with them many pictures and books about the Black
Seminoles that were laid out on tables for the members to view.
Thanks to Matthew and his uncle for the presentation and we wish
Matthew well in whatever career he pursues.
