Simon KENYON (18 March 1789 – 27 May 1865) is Russ Kenyon’s Third Great Grandfather. He was the son of Benjamin and Sally (Worden) Kenyon. Simon was a native of Hopkinton, Washington County, Rhode Island , and during his early life followed farming at Canonchet (a village in Hopkinton), later carting goods from the mills at Hope Valley , with an ox team. He was deacon of the Rockville Seventh Day Baptist Church , and a Whig in political sentiment. He married Mary BRIGHTMAN, daughter of Thomas and Thankful (Nye) Brightman, and to them was born a family of ten children. His descendants now number over 1000. Their family home still stands in the village of Canonchet . On 5 November 1849, Simon Kenyon was appointed administrator of Horatio Burdick's estate, and the widow, Thankful Burdick, Simon's daughter, was appointed guardian of their three sons. Simon is the subject of the book “Simon Kenyon of Hopkinton” authored by Russ’ father, Kenneth E. Kenyon, in 1977.
