About the Speaker - Henry Z (Hank) Jones, Jr.

Hank has been a professional genealogist since 1965. He is an entertaining Genealogical lecturer, an accomplished writer and a respected Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists. He is best known

 for his extensive work with Palatine genealogy and for his popular book, 'Psychic Roots'. Hank has

also had a long career as an entertainer and screen actor.

He has been actively climbing family trees since the age of eight, when he found and old trunk filled with fading tintypes, family letters and old newspaper clippings in the basement of his parent's home in San Leandro, CA. He wrote his first genealogical work, A Few More Left: the Story of Isaac Hillman, his great grandfather, while still in High School.

As to his "other life" ,apart from genealogical research, Hank Jones has been in the entertainment field since his graduation from Stanford. He was a co-star on the old daytime Tennessee Ernie Ford TV show, logging 400 network appearances on that program. He also recorded albums for RCA, Capitol, and Epitome Records and was a featured player in many of the Disney films. His 20 year career as and actor in films and TV also included Blackbeard's Ghost, Herbie Rides Again, The Shaggy DA, The Cat from Outer Space, Girl Happy, Tora-Tora-Tora and several others, as well as a host of other TV appearances.

 

He retired from on-camera acting in 1981, to devote more time to his first love of genealogical research. He, and his wife Bonnie, live in the Scripps Ranch of San Diego.
