The City of Fort Pierce
On February 2. 1901, fifty-three men, from the eligible sixty-six qualified electors, voted to incorporate as the town of Fort Pierce, set boundaries between the Indian River and Seventh Street that reached north to today's Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery and south to the Old Fort Pierce site. This also included the pioneer settlement of the 1870's north of Moore's Creek which was called Edgartown, and the newer section south of Moore's Creek which had been called Cantown.
This group of fifty-three citizens, of the new municipality, elected Albert C. Dittmar for Mayor. Chosen as Alderman were; Linley L. Carlton, David L. Alderman, Frank M. Tyler, Peter P. Cobb and Alexander Yorkston W. Hogg. Henry I. Klopp was elected as City Clerk and Daniel S. Carlton was the City Marshall.
