Message Boards

  • Lee County was detached from Monroe County in 1887. Lee is bounded on the east by Hendry County, on the south by Collier County, on the west by the Gulf of Mexico and to the north by Charlotte County. The Caloosahatchee River runs between County seat Fort Myers and North Fort Myers. A vast and varied county, Lee is home to historic Boca Grande, charming barrier islands Sanibel , Captiva ,Cayo Costa, Useppa, Cabbage Key and Pine Island, agribusiness centers Lehigh, Olga and Alva ,quaint former fishing village Bonita Springs , Fort Myers Beach, Estero of Koreshan Unity fame, and more.
  • Charlotte County detached from DeSoto in 1921. Charlotte is home to Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte. This county is due north of Lee County.
  • Collier County detached from Lee County in 1923. Collier lies to the south of Lee County and houses Naples and Marco Island.
  • DeSoto County was detached from Monroe County in 1887; It lies to the Northeast of Lee County and is home to Fort Ogden, Arcadia, Nocatee and Pine Level.
  • Glades was detached from Desoto in 1921. Glades once extended to the north side of the Caloosahatchee River at LaBelle. This county is northeast of Lee County and home to Moore Haven,Ortona, Lakeport and Buckhead Ridge.
  • Hardee County was detached from DeSoto April 1921. The migration south includes many families from this area.
  • Hendry County was detached from Lee County in 1923. Lee is directly to the east of Lee and houses LaBelle, Ft. Denaud, Felda and Clewiston.
  • Monroe was one of the three original west coast Florida counties along with Hillsborough and Mosquito.We included this message board because travel and trade between Lee and Monroe was extensive.
