Fort Myers News-Press, 7 Dec 2007 -- Leanne Denise Yancey, age 42, of Alva, passed away December 5, 2007 in Alva. She was born July 19, 1965 in Fort Myers. She resided in Alva for the past twenty-six years and was a lifelong resident of the area. Leanne was a lifelong member of 4-H.Survivors include her husband: Rusty Yancey, sons: Jason and Cody Yancey of Alva, daughter: Miranda Yancey of Alva, parents: David and Rose Marie (Bryant) Porter of N. Fort Myers, brother: Jamie Porter (Karen) of N. FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, August 20, 1932 - George W. Yarbrough, 68 years old, was accidentally drowned some time early yesterday morning in a small creek near the old road to Fort Myers Beach. A searching party which started out when he failed to return yesterday morning, found the body in 10 feet of water underneath the anchored craft. Sheriff F. B. Tippins and Constable D. M. Ramsey investigated and said they believed Yarbrough had suffered a heart attack and fell overboard. The body was brought to the Lawrence A. Powell funeral home. Funeral arrangements were held up until word could be received from a sister, Mrs. Laela Dorothy of Miami, and a daughter, Miss Goldie May Yarbrough of Lake Butler. Yarbrough came to Fort Myers three years ago from Miami and had been employed as a shell collector for Rupert's novelty store, which makes the shells into trinkets and souvenirs for northern markets. Following the official investigation, no inquest was considered necessary. Yarbrough left the beach in his boat Thursday night. He was last reported about midnight when fishermen said they had heard his boat engine. When he failed to return yesterday morning, Grover Hackney organized a searching party and the anchored craft was found in the little creek. Marvin Bennett and another youth dove into the water to search for the body and reported a dark object underneath. Russell Blemke dove to the bottom and tied a rope to the body. August 21, 1932, Funeral services for George W. Yarbrough, fisherman who was accidentally drowned Friday morning neart Fort Myers Beach, were held yesterday afternoon at the Lawrence A. Powell chapel. The Rev. W. H. Edwards officiated. Burial was in the Fort Myers Cemetery. Two sons of Mr. Yarbrough arrived from Miami to attend the service. They are A. O. and M. F. Yarbrough. Mr. Yarbrough had lived here for three years and was employed as a shell collector. His body was recovered from 10 feet of water on a small creek. Investigators said he had suffered a heart attack and fallen overboard.

FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS - April 13, 1940 William Edward Yates, 79, died yesterday morning at his home in Russell Park after a long illness. He had made his home in Lee County since 1923, coming from Brooksville, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Harriet Yates; a brother, Arthur, and a sister, Miss Helen Yates of England. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock this aftgernoon at the Lawrence A. Powell funeral chapel on First Street with the Rev. Leroy Crider officiating. Pallbearers will be G. C. Gatlin, A. Jackson, W. Whiting, Horace Underwood, Nate Blount and Mr. Green. Interment will be in the Fort Myers Cemetery.

The News-Press on 2/1/2009--Sheila M. Yeager, 78, of Cape Coral, passed away on Wednesday. She was born in England to the late Thomas and Winnifred Kirkham, and was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1979, and grandson, Kenneth in 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Dennis) Brooks of Florida; son, William (Barbara) and granddaughter, Christa Yeager of Baltimore; granddaughter and grandson, Cindy R. Sharkey and Philip V. Brooks of Florida; 3 sisters, Doreen, and twins, Pauline and Brenda; twin brothers, Morris and Sydney; and god-daughter, Adele all from England. She leaves behind her 30 year loving companion, Hugh Devlin; "daughters", #2 Linda King, & #3 Vicki Fewell; and numerous faithful lifetime friends. Visitation will be at Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home, 12777 SR82, Fort Myers, FL, on Monday, February 2, 2009, from 5-7 pm, and Tuesday from 10-11 am, with a funeral service to follow at 11 am at the funeral home. Ft Myers News-Press, August 17, 2003 - Mildred P. Yedlicka, 97, of Massena, died Thursday. Aug. 14, 2003 at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena. She was born April 12, 1906 in Antwerp, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Lareesch) Perry. She graduated from Massena High School and Watertown School of Commerce. She was employed at Alcoa as a secretary. She worked at Alcoa until 1930 and returned to Massena 1988. She married Joseph Yedlicka on July 8, 1929 at St. Mary's Rectory with the Rev. Thomas Burley officiating. Mr. Yedlicka predeceased her on Dec. 10, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marion Premo and two brothers, Clyde and Harley Perry. She is survived by her brother Oreson (June) Perry of Massena; a sister Edith Luca of Massena; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mildred P. Yedlicka, 97, of Massena, will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM at St. Mary's Church in Massena with the Rev. Alan D. Shnob presiding. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park, in Ft. Myers, FL. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.

FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, Nov. 28, 1936--Haynes E. Yelvington, 60, special agent for the Peninsula Life Insurance Company, died here early this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. G. Lamberton. Mr. Yelvington, who formerly lived in Fort Myers, had made his home in Tampa and was on a visit here. In addition to Mrs. Lamberton, he is survived by a son, Charles, of Lakeland. Funeral arrangements will be made later. November 29, 1936--Funeral services for H. E. Yelvington, 60-year-old insurance agent, will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at the Lawrence A. Powell chapel with the Rev. F. A. Shore and the Rev. Carlock Hawk officiating. The body will be taken to Tampa after the services here and burial services will be held at the Myrtle Hill Cemetery at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon with the Rev. John B. Walthour in charge. Pallbearers here will be Cyril Shawcross, Thad Freeney, Mr Allen, Pat LeMoyne, Hoy D. Black and John Jones. Pallbearers at the Tampa ceremony will be associates of Mr. Yelvington in the Peninsular Insurance Company. Mr. Yelvington is survived by a son, Charles E. Yelvington of Lakeland, a daughter, Mrs. R. G. Lambert of Fort Meyrs, a sister, Mrs. Sara Erickson of Deland; and three brothers, Jesse of DeLeon Springs, William Y. of Daytona Beach and Reuben Y. of Seville.

FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, July 3, 1955 - Cora Melinda Yeomans, a resident of Fort Myers for the past 30 years died yesterday. Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of which she was a charter member, with the Rev. Jasper W. Smoak and Rev. J. W. Swanson, former pastor, officiating. Mrs. Yeomans, a native of Daytona Beach, is survived by her husband, Perry A. Yeomans; a daughter, Mrs. Donnie Dukes of Fort Meyrs; four sons, Aubrey, Dempsey, Sherrill, all of Fort Myers, and Grayble of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Lonie Durden of Winter Haven, three brothers, Will Ricks of Jessup, Ga.; Alphonso and Meda Ricks, both of Winter Haven and 12 grandchildren. Frank is survived by his wife, Wilma Goodrich Yeomans]; sons, Curtis and Arleigh; daughter, Nancy; brother, Clem; and six grandchildren. FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, Monday, July 25, 1955 - Joseph Owen Yeomans, 64-year-old retired carpenter and a long time resident of Lee County and Fort Myers, died early Sunday morning at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Bay Pines where he had been a patient since Wednesday. Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Agnes Yeomans, are three daughters: Mrs. Lucille Harris, Mrs. Irma Jean Patrick and Miss Wanda L. Yeomans; three sons, Roy Lee, Bobby and Wiley L. Yeomans; and one sister, Mrs. Albritton; and a grandson, Johnny Harris. He was a native of Marco and a veteran of World War I. The Rabe O. Wilkison American Legion Post No. 38 would bestow full military honors with complete funeral arrange-ments to be announced later by Young-Harvey, funeral directors.

She was born Feb. 14, 1921 in Dunnellon to Fletcher Frank Billups and Joyce Florence (Hale) Billups. She was a resident of LaBelle since 1942.Survivors include her son: Robert Lane (Cheryl) Yeomans of LaBelle, daughter: Susan Juanita Yeomans of LaBelle, Niece: Wanda (Wallace) Fallin of LaBelle, Grandchildren: Chad Everett (Nickey) Yeomans, Matthew Lee Yeomans of Naples and Amy Yeomans of LaBelle and great-grandchildren: Kassie Yeomans and Kirsten Yeomans, both of Fort Myers. A member of New Testament Baptist Church and employed at Publix Supermarket. Steve is the son of the late Bobby Yeomans. He is survived by his Mother Darlyne Yeomans and his brother Todd Yeomans, several local extended family members. Memorial service, with fellowship to follow will be held Saturday, Dec. 17th at 10:00 AM at New Testament Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Roan conducting. FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, Sept. 19, 1933--An illness of three years' duration ended yesterday in the death of George Yobst, aged 49, at his home on the Bayshore road. He had lived here for about 20 years. Mr. Yobst was born in Germany and came to Chicago from his home overseas before removing to Florida. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Miss Annie Lynne Yobst and Miss Margaret Yobst. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 o'clock tomorrow morning at the St. Francis Xavier church with the Rev. Father R. P. Brennan officiating. Lawrence A. FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, April 9, 1936--David S. Youmans, 67-year old Lee county pioneer, was found dead in bed yesterday at his home on Marion street. He apparently died either Sunday or Monday. His body was found by a grandson, T. D. Youmans. A coroner's jury was called by Peace Justice John R. West and Constable Dillard Ramsey and heard witnesses testify that the elderly man had been drinking heavily for a week before his death. Dr. Baker Whisnant examined the body and testified that in his opinion death was due to alcoholism. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock this morning at the graveside in Fort Myers cemetery with Fred Lanier officiating. Lawrence A. Powell has charge of arrangements. Survivors are a son, Luby Youmans, and four daughters, Mrs. E. E. Edenfield, Mrs. J. E. Freeland, Mrs. L. F. DesRochers and Mrs. S. L. Bullock.

FORT MEYRS NEWS-PRESS Dec. - 30, 1976 - Samuel Luby Youmans, 78, 3704 Marion St., died Wednesday. He was a life time resident of Fort Myers and a veteran of World WarI. He was a member of American Legion Post 38 and opened the first licensed bar in Lee County int he early 1930's. He is survied by his wife, Mrs. Corene Youmans, two daughters,Mrs. Delores Meredith and Mrs. Pat Ellis; one son, Lamar Youmans of Fort Myers; one sister, Mrs. Aleta Edenfield of Gainesville, a half-brother, Roy Johnson of North Fort Meyrs, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, Nov. 13, 1938 - Mrs. Edna M. Youmans, 36-year-old wife of Roosevelt Youmans, died yesterday afternoon at their home at 648 East First street after a short illness. Mrs. Youmans had been a resident of Lee county for 13 years and was a member of the Church of God mission. Funeral services will be held at the Spooner and Engelhardt funeral home at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon with the Rev. W. F. Singletary and Rev. C. L. Crider officiating. Mrs. Youmans is survived by her husand, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Johns, four sisters, Mrs. Ruby Gibbs of Fort Myers, Mrs. Alice Walker and Mrs. Hattie Baumgardt of Miami and Mrs. Lona Dansby of Lakeland, and two brothers, Milton and Lester Johns of Fort Myers. Interment will be at the Fort Myers Cemetery.

Caloosa Belle, Feb 23 2005-- Mary E. Young, age 78, of Xenia, OH, passed away Feb. 8, 2005, in Xenia. She was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Troy, OH. Mary was a former resident of LaBelle. Survivors include her son: Roger Young and wife Elida of LaBelle; daughter: Rita Miller of Xenia, OH; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.E. "Bill" Young and daughter Rebecca Young Snow. Funeral services were held Feb. 13 at the Akin-Davis Funeral Home in LaBelle with Reverend James Caves officiating. FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, May 7, 1933--Eric Younger, owner of a large honey farm at Estero, died early yesterday morning at the Lee Memorial hospital after a brief illness. He was 74 years old. Younger came to Lee county 27 years ago from Colorado, locating near Estero. He lived a comparatively secluded life following a separation from his wife 20 years ago. He was well known here through peddling honey in the city. Several years ago Younger became involved in a squabble with the tribe of Brother Isaiah who had settled on his land. Younger obtained their eviction, and the religious colony moved to California. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Lawrence A. Powell chapel with members of the Seventh Day Adventist church in charge. He leaves no know surviving relatives.

Fort Myers News-Press, 22 Mar 2005-- Gladys Ellen Younger, 78, of Fort Myers, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005 following an extended illness. She was born March 8, 1927 in Sedalia, Missouri and moved to Fort Myers in 1957. Mrs. Younger was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and quilting but mostly, enjoyed the time spent with her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Richard Evans Younger, a prominent wildlife artist; three sons: Steven K. Younger (Colleen) of Federal Way Washington, Richard E. Younger, II (Maureen) of Fort Myers and John "Randy" Younger (Debbie) of Charlottesville, Virginia; one daughter: Laura J. Herndon (Reed) of Fort Myers. Also surviving are grandchildren: Steven, Tamara, Leslie, Hayley, McKenzie, Michelle, Evan, Les, Kylie and Julie and two great grandchildren: Bryce and Mark. A private memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on the 3rd. day of April at the residence of Richard E. Younger, II, 6905 Highland Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33912. Fort Myers News-Press-August 27, 2008- Mabel L. Younger died at her home Saturday in Fort Myers, after a lengthy illness. She was 84. She was born on April 8, 1924 to Lawrence Taylor Maxwell and Pearl Reed Maxwell in Sedalia, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Loren Younger, in 2002, shortly before their 60th Anniversary.She was a 1942 Graduate of Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, Missouri. She was a war bride, marrying Robert L. Younger on November 1, 1942. Mabel is survived by five sons, Robert L. Younger Jr., and wife Jeri, of Cape Coral, Ronald Alan Younger, of Tampa, Dan Cole Younger and wife Debra, of Fort Myers, Mark Douglas Younger and wife Glenda, of Sarasota, and Corey Maxwell Younger and wife Rene, of Cape Coral. She is survived by thirteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. All her adult life she worked as a telephone operator, working, in turn, for Bell Telephone, InterCounty, and Sprint. Mabel took her part in "the Greatest Generation," by supporting her new husband through Army Air Corps flight training in 1942, and 1943, and later as he served as a C-47 pilot in the European Theater of Operations. She replayed that roll as 1st Lt. Younger served in the USAF as a B-26 pilot based in Pusan, Korea.Longing for a warmer climate, the growing family left Missouri in 1955. When Bob saw the palm trees lining the Caloosahatchee, he knew he'd found their new home. As an experienced radio man, he found employment at WINK Radio and TV. Long and vitally involved in southwest Florida social life, Mabel won numerous awards for her humorous entries in the annual "Baby Parade," and saw two sons selected to serve as Junior Kings of Edisonia (1959, 1967).One of Mabel's more distinctive achievements came in 1960 when an orange-based cake she developed won grand prize in the Florida Citrus Commission's bake-off in Winter Haven.One activity that touched many lives yet is largely unknown to any who were not there is Bob and Mabel's central role in the early 60's in forming a new church that would take the name of the drowsy little road they met on, McGregor Baptist Church.Many throughout the United States knew Mabel as an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers. Her collection is known to include over 30,000 different pairs.Interment will follow a private, family ceremony on Thursday morning at Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers. Fort Myers News-Press-July 25, 2008- Clarence Edward Youngs, 71, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away July 23, 2008. He was born April 22, 1937 in Flint, Michigan the son of Edward and Mary (Swerdan) Youngs. He moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1961 where he met and married Jacquelyn Ballard on October 12, 1962. Clarence served in the United States Navy on the USS Wasp Aircraft Carrier. Clarence also served as an Engineer Fire Fighter for 27 1/2 years on the Fort Myers Fire Department.The family of Clarence wishes to thank everyone who has shown such love, kindness, and respect to our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Fort Myers News-Press-- 22 Feb 2007 Maria Gina Youngs (nee Marrone), 66, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2007 in Cape Coral, surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 26, 1941 in Bitonto, Italy where she lived until she was 9. She came to America with her family and settled in Bethpage, New York, where she learned to speak English and excelled in school. Always a hard worker, Maria and her brothers and sister worked industriously to help their parent's family business. After getting her associates degree, Maria was introduced to Richard Youngs. They were married in 1969, the year they moved to Delmar, upstate New York. Maria and Rich owned and operated a Carvel ice-cream store, and had two children, Gina and Melina. Maria has lived in Cape Coral since 1982. She was an outgoing, sensitive, generous woman, who worked tirelessly to make sure those around her were happy and taken care of. Selfless and full of love, Maria neglected her own personal needs and sacrificed constantly for the good of others. Maria was an avid animal lover, giving much love to her beloved cat "Annie" and also feeding birds and stray cats. She was dependable and was always there when needed, giving all she had to all she loved. She was a strong believer in God, and prayed for guidance. She survived much hardship-most recently losing her Sunset Towers apartment to Hurricane Charley. Maria was tough and so strong, and an inspiration to all fortunate enough to know her. She will be forever missed by daughter, Dr. Melina A. (Youngs) Esquerre, Melina's husband Francis Esquerre, daughter Dr. Gina M. Youngs, Maria's former husband and close companion, Richard H. Youngs, brothers Herb Marrone (Ann), Ben Marrone (Ann) and Frank Marrone (Ann). Maria also leaves behind many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Carmela Marrone, her father, Luigi Marrone, her sister, Melina Centrone, and her brother Jim Marrone Her beloved companion, cat "Annie," will be adopted by daughter Gina. The world will never be the same without you, "Sweetheart." May you finally relax, for you deserve the luxury in Heaven that you never allowed yourself here on Earth. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday. February 24, at the Metz Funeral Chapel, 1306 Lafayette St., Cape Coral. Interment will follow at Coral Ridge Cemetery. Fort Myers News-Press, 2005-02-19-- Lettie E. Zabinski, 89, of Ft. Myers died January 17, 2005, she was born January 22, 1915 a daughter of the late Walter and Matylda Zabinski, she has lived in the local area for over 50 years, she worked for the telephone company in the directory division for many years before retiring in 1980, she was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers. Lettie was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Mrs. Zabinski was predeceased by her sister and brother- in- law Jennie and Lawrence, she is survived by close relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be conducted in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Thursday at 11 AM. Interment will be in Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Fort Myers News-Press, Jan 9, 2005 - Margie Barnes Zammerilla of N. Ft. Myers, FL passed away peacefully at her home on December 28, 2004. She had lived in Lee County since the mid 1930's. Born July 29, 1922 in Chicoraq, MS, she moved to the sawmill town of Slater, FL, where her father worked for the W.P. Dowling Lumber Company one of the largest mills in the South. She was a graduate of Ft. Myers Senior High School class of 1940. Margie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Floyd and Bessie Barnes, her brother, Floyd F. "Tootsie" Barnes and her beloved husband of 34 years, Nick A. Zammerilla, Sr. After her husband's death in 1978, she continued to own and operate Nick's Plumbing Company until her retirement. She is survived by her three children, Nick Zammerilla, Jr. (LInda), David Zammerilla (Sandi) and her beloved daughter and caregiver, Donna K. Neff. Margie was blessed with six grandchildren, David Zammerilla, Jr., Nick Zammerilla, III, Nicole (Zammerilla) Sosa and Lauren, Amanda and Caroline Neff. She also has three great-grandchildren, Francisco, Anthony and Andrew Sosa. In the summer and fall Margie would spend time at her mountain home in Highlands, NC. A place that was very dear to her heart. She was an avid reader and was blessed with many wonderful friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Zemke, Sr., 72, of 700 Palm Lane, died Wednesday.  A native of Buffalo, N.Y., he had been a resident of Fort Myers for the past eight years.  He was a member of Transportation Lodge 842 F&AM of Buffalo, N.Y. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth F. Zemke of Fort Myers; three sons, Raymond Zemke, Russell C. Zemke Jr. and Donald Zemke, all of Buffalo, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs Bertha Bolz and Mrs. Mildred Esch, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; one brother, Edwin Zemke of Buffalo, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of the Anderson Funeral Home, 3654 Palm Beach Blvd. with the Rev. Dwight W. Edwards of Calvary Temple Assembly of God offficiating. Christopher is survived by his four beautiful children, Christopher, Mia, Michael, and Mikayla. Christopher was the best dad any of us could strive to be, he loved his children more than anything in this world. He was the brother that you wish was yours, and the son that any parent would be proud to say that was theirs, the loving brother of Tommy, Tim, Becky, Jeff, Jake, Jessie, and proud and loving son of Virginia.Christopher was a hard worker, and was a roofer by trade for the past 15 years in Southwest Florida. He enjoyed to play and watch football, even from his days as a kid on the Wyandotte Indians, but most of all he loved life and his family. Fort Myers News-Press July 27, 2009 Rita C. Ziegler, 93, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, in Barrington Terrace Nursing Home with family by her side after a short illness. Rita Carroll Ziegler was born June 4, 1916, in Mansfield, Ohio, to Sheridan and Kathryn Schreiber Carroll and lived in the Mansfield and Ashland, Ohio area until retiring to Fort Myers Beach, Florida in 1976. She met and married Joseph Charles Ziegler in Mansfield, Ohio in 1938. She was a homemaker and worked in the Richlan County court system. She was a graduate of Saint Peters Catholic High School in Mansfield. She and her late husband were members of Church of the Ascension church in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.Surviving are her brother, Thomas A. Carroll of Ruidoso, New Mexico; daughter, Katrina Pearce of Fort Myers, Florida, son, Joseph M. Ziegler of Bonita Springs, Florida, granddaughter, Emily Ziegler of Euless, Texas, three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Ziegler, on Dec 4, 1983; and a brother, Phillip S. Carroll, July 23, 1996 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.There will be no calling hours, however, a Memorial Mass service will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Church of the Ascension church in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Burial will be in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens in Fort Myers, Florida. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice Care in Fort Myers, Florida.
