WHITE CITY CEMETERY
Located at 3800 Sunrise Blvd. Fort Pierce, at the southeast corner of Sunrise and Bell Avenue, in the southern end of town. There is an old section where many people are believed to be buried with no record and no markers. The story goes that the property belonged to the Bell family, but a young couple by the name of James and Dolly Metts SMITH were living on the property in an Indian chickee. A son was born and named James Lafayette SMITH; he only lived 3 days. He is believed to be the first person buried there, but there is no record to confirm this. Mr. E. J. Traynor also donated land for this cemetery. In 1902 a group of residents met to charter an association to take over the 1.25 acre burial ground.
