Membership

Anyone with an interest in genealogy is invited to join.  To learn more about our organization our Bylaws are available online for review.  Membership year begins July 1 and ends June 30.  Dues are paid annually on July 1 and are $20 for individuals or $25 for a family per membership year.  To join, open and print the  membership application.  Mail the completed application with your check to Tallahassee Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 4371, Tallahassee, FL 32315-4371.   Benefits of membership include:

 

MONTHLY MEETINGS

Usually held at the R.A. Gray Building (Florida State Archives) located at 500 S. Bronough Street, in Tallahassee on the last  Tuesday evening of each month (except December).  Our sharing time begins at 6:30 p.m.  At 7:00 p.m. we begin our regular business meeting followed by a Speaker or by a Special Interest Workshop.  Click on the calendar link to see the topic for upcoming meetings.


MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

Notice of upcoming meetings and program  topics.


MEMBER FILES
 

Members are provided with a file folder in the Society’s filing cabinet at the Leon County    Public Library in which to store a copy of their basic family data (lineage charts, family group sheets, etc.) 


OUR LIBRARY FILES

We are continually adding to our  collection of books, pamphlets, newsletters and surname files in our collection now housed at the Leon County Public Library.


TALLAHASSEE GENEALOGIST

Our official journal mailed quarterly to members containing educational articles, society news, queries, local research, and book reviews.


SPECIAL INTEREST COMMITTEES

On an ongoing basis, members abstract and transcribe data from locally available sources to preserve and     publish the records.  Current projects include a survey of local church records, census records and family Bible records.


WORKSHOPS

These occur in conjunction with the regularly scheduled meetings at which small groups form for special interest sessions.


SEMINARS

Sponsored annually, nationally-known  individuals are invited to lecture on various genealogical topics at an all-day Saturday session. Exhibit booths are featured.
