Dear Historical Society Members,

The Wakulla County Historical Society is alive and well as those of you who attended the meeting in Sopchoppy last month are aware. If you did not attend the meeting you missed a really wonderful meal catered by “Posey’s Beyond the Bay” from Panacea” and a very interesting presentation on Wakulla Springs by our own outgoing President Barbara Hines.

Our meeting this month will be at the Wakulla County Public Library at 7PM on Tuesday, November 10, our speaker will be Carlos Taff who will speak on seine yards in the Shell Point area.

A brief recap of the last meeting, this meeting was not only our annual dinner meeting but election of officers, for the 2009-10 year the officers are; Cathy Gray Frank – President; Betty Green – Vice President; Linda D. Thompson – Secretary; Terri Gerrell –Treasurer; and new board members that were added this year are: SandraVidak, Richard Harden, Scott Joyner, and Arlene Vause – Welcome to each of them.

I am very excited about the plans for our new year. We are off to a running start. As you can see we are going to have a special treat with Carlos Taff sharing the history of Shell Point and the Seine Yards. Looking forward to December, the December 8th meeting will be an open house to be held at the Museum from 6 – 8 p.m. This is going to be a gala affair complete with food and entertainment by Sammy Tedder. Make plans to attend and see how the Museum and Archives have progressed. You can drop by to see the progress and do Genealogy Research on Thursday’s only from 10am-4pm.; should you decide to call the museum, if no one is available, we have an answering machine; the number is 926-1110. Thank you to all the workers that have put so much time into this project. The Heritage Village Committee is still seeking a location for our eleven historic homes. The Cemetery Committee continues to maintain our local cemeteries by mowing and documenting information. The Genealogy Group meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Museum and Archives. You can email them at 24research@gmail.com.

Please remember the officers and board of directors cannot do it alone, we would like to thank all of our members who volunteered time, energy and monies for the society.

We hope you will be able to attend the meeting on Tuesday, November 10, 2009.

With Warm Regards,

Cathy Gray Frank
