St. Monica’s Episcopal Church Interment Garden

Surveyed November 15, 2008 by Evan Strohl, Cemetery Chairperson, West Florida Genealogical Society (WFGS). Please contact Evan or the Webmaster if you have comments or additional information about this interment garden. Thank you.

Unable to find someone to give permission initially, I first surveyed this cemetery about October 13, 2008; about a week later, I noticed a crew of folks repairing the church sign and introduced myself to Ms. DixieAnn STEVENS. After a short conversation, she felt that it would all right for me to obtain the dates from the headstones. This interment garden was re-surveyed for correctness on November 15, 2008.

This small cemetery is actually shaped into a cross in the ground and is called an “Interment Garden.” The burials here contain the “cremains” and small headstones of the individuals. There are also a few benches upon which to sit and rest.

I understood that in October 2008, there is an interim pastor at this church, who is usually at the church office next door on Tuesdays—and there may also be a secretary there. My contact there is Priscilla NOBLES, current president of the WFGS, and Ms. DixieAnn STEVENS, church member.

Directions: 699 Hwy C-95A, Cantonment, Florida. To reach this cemetery, drive North on US29 from US Alt 90 [Nine Mile Rd] about 2.6 miles, to the traffic light at Kingsfield Road C-186, and take a right. Drive less than 0.1 mile to the 4-way stop, and turn Left, onto C-95A. Drive North about 2.1 mile to the St. Monica’s Church, which is on the left—drive into the parking lot. The interment garden is on the North side of this church building—on the side of the playground and small lake. Walk across the grass to get to the Garden—it’s up next to the building.
