During the Spanish-American War

Contributed by: Paul Muller

Muster Roll and Service Record

This company was organized at Pensacola, Florida, August 1888, under the name “Chipley Light Infantry” and was later known as Company B, Third Battalion, Florida State Troops. The company was accepted by the governor for service in the United States Volunteers, on May 1, 1898.

The company left Pensacola on May 13, 1898, by rail for Tampa. It arrived in Tampa on May 14 and went into camp at Fort Brook, at which place the company was mustered in May 23. The company broke camp on May 27 and marched to DeSoto Park, Tampa, Florida, where it went into camp May 29. The company later marched to Tampa Heights, where it joined up with the United States Siege Artillery train under Colonel Mills, U. S. Army. The company left by train for Fernandina, arriving there July 22, where it remained until August 23, when it again broke camp and left for Huntsville, Alabama.

The company remained in Huntsville from August 25 until October 9, at which time it moved to Tallahassee, Florida, arriving there on October 11, 1898. On October 16 the company was furloughed for 30 days, leaving a detachment in camp guarding government property. The company returned from furlough on November 15 and was subsequently mustered out.
