BURNEY FAMILY CENSUS-NOTES
Vera J. Moore 1870 Census, Putnam County, Ga, Eatonton PO, Page 101, Sheet 232, 25th August (Notice the very bad spelling!) BURNEY, Edwin, Black, 37, Farm hand, Ga J------, Black, 35, House servent, Ga (Eben) Silory, B, 14, farm hand, Ga.........(Silvey/Silvie....she married to Thomas COBB) Ella, B, 11, Ga Jefferson, B, 09, Ga William, B, 03, Ga Carrie, B, 01, Ga......(Twin) Addie, B, 01, Ga.......(Twin) ODAM, Caroline, B, 57, farm hand, Ga....(She is either Eben or Jeanette's mother, but am leaning towards Eben…see following notes) BROWN, Nancy, B, 70, at home, Ga....(no leads on who Nancy was at this time) Not sure how the following are connected but notice the pattern of the name Caroline and Adaline "Addie" in the following BURNEY household in 1870 Jasper County. This is how I am leaning towards the idea that Caroline ODOM was the mother of Eben and possibly the Charles below. William BURNEY is 7 years younger than Caroline...who could he be? Another possibility is that William BURNEY is a brother to the father of Eben and Charles was William's son? I'm working on a possible theory that Caroline ODOM and (slave) BURNEY were on seperate plantations. I have the estate file/slave distribution records of Winbourn ODOM dated 1827 Putnam County. In this distribution his minor son Boykin Bennett ODOM inherited Caroline among others. Cannot get a listing of the slaves of B.B. ODOM as his death and estate are not until 1888 Putnam County.... Need to research the Putnam County records of deeds and other records recording anything in regards to slaves and B.B. ODOM prior to 1867 and employment records of former slaves at least to 1870 at the Probate Court. Also same work needs to be done with the BURNEY slave-holders in Jasper County 1870 Census, Jasper County, Goolsby Miltia District 289, Monticello PO, page 450B BURNEY, Charles, B, 24, works on farm, Ga Georgia, B, 25, works on farm, Ga Mary F., B., 08, Ga Caroline, B, 04, Ga By 1880 Charles and Georgia were in Putnam County and also had a daughter named Addie born about 1876. So now we have Eben, Charles and William BURNEY each having daughters named Caroline/Carrie, and Adaline/Addie. same page 1870...
