Lillian Purvis McCarthy, 79, Waylon Street, Yulee,
passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Quality Health
Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
A native of Bacon County, Ga., she was the daughter of
the late Ross and Mary Bratcher Purvis and had resided
in Nassau County for the last 48 years.
Mrs. McCarthy was a homemaker and a Christian, and had
retired from the Land and Williams Corporation of
Fernandina Beach. She enjoyed fishing, flower
gardening, cooking and keeping her loving companion,
Robert G. Turner, "straight".
Additional survivors include: her children, Barbara
(Carl) Rowe, Betty (Oliver) Rowe and Terry (Jill)
McCarthy, all of Fernandina Beach; a stepson, Johnny
Turner of Nassauville; grandchildren, Belinda (Steve)
Braswell, Fernandina Beach, Brandy (Ruben) Garza,
Kingsland, Ga., and Brian (Jennifer) Rowe and Cole
McCarthy of Fernandina Beach; great-grandchildren,
Brittany, Jamie, Joseph, Kaitlin, Dalton, Ashley,
Hannah and Blake; two brothers, Johnny Purvis, Odum,
Ga., and Gerald (Jeannie) Purvis, Blackshear, Ga.; and
two sisters, Gracie (Rev. Herbert) Williams,
Patterson, Ga., and Mary Jean (Frank) Glass, Plant
City; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the
Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with the
Rev. Herbert H. Williams officiating. Burial will
follow in Bosque-Bello Cemetery.
Mrs. McCarthy's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6-8
p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
