Library of Congress Digital Collections ~ Includes such goodies as maps, historical newspapers

Bureau of Land Management, General Land Office Records ~ If you have relatives who headed west, don't miss this.

Public Domain Sherpa ~ Lots of good information on copyright law in general, plus places to find books and maps that are in the public domain

The Legal Genealogist ~ Explanations of old legal terms, information on copyright, and many other subjects of interest to genealogists

U. S. Census Bureau ~ Click on "Maps" on the left side of the screen to find current maps that you can download, customize, etc.

Documenting the American South ~ A digital publishing initiative that provides Internet access to texts, images, and audio files related to southern history, literature, and culture.

Civil War Index ~ Affiliated with LSU's Civil War Center; a tremendous resource for those of us who are a tad obsessed with "The Late Unpleasantness"
