AMMONS, JAMES BRYANT        1827-1891                             WAYNE COUNTY

James Bryant Ammons, *CSA*enlisted as a Private March 1, 1862 in Waynesville by Major T.S. Hopkins and Major Clinch into service for the length of the war.  It wasn’t long before he was appointed Sergeant, Company A, K, 4th Clinch Georgia Cavalry, Confederate States Army.

He was  born February 17,1 827, and died November 2, 1891, the son of Sherod Sheffield and Jane Ammons, was buried at High Bluff.  He was married to Catherine Robinson.

James & Catherine had the following children:

1) Celete Ammons, b. Jan 13, 1850 , d. April 8, 1928 ; m. Fleming Uriah Walker, b. July 17, 1845 , d. May 2, 1935 .

2) Mary Molly Ammons, b. Dec. 25, 1851 , d. April 16, 1927 . m. George Washington “Dick” Allen, Sr.*CSA*, May 03, 1891 ; he was b. Feb. 25, 1837 , Dec. 16, 1904 .  Mary & George are b. in Allen-O’Berry Cemetery, Charlton County, Georgia.

3) James Mathew Ammons, b. Sept. 25, 1853 , d. Oct. 11, 1916 , m Emily Amanda duBignon, James was b. in High Bluff Cemetery .

4) Atley Ashley Ammons, b. Mar. 01, 1856, d. June 27, 1925, m. Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” Griffin, daughter of Edward Griffin and Mary Mizell.  She was b. May 22, 1864 and d. Nov. 20, 1936 .  Atley & Sarah are b. in High Bluff Cemetery .

5) John Franklin Ammons, b. July 12, 1860, d. Mar. 28, 1946, m. Malissa “Sally” Griffin, d. of James Griffin & Henrietta Cason b. Feb. 5, 1877, d. June 5, 1947.  John and Malissa are b. in High Bluff Cemetery .

6) Catherine “Tassie” Ammons, b. Feb. 25, 1862 , d. May 07, 1952 , m. John A. Allen Nov. 9, 1886 in Pierce Co.  Son of George Allen & Keziah Davis, John was b. July 01, 1858 and d. July 03, 1926 .  Catherine & John are b. in Corinth Cemetery .

7) Cassie Oregon “Augie” Ammons, b. Feb. 11, 1864, d. Sept. 11, 1935, m. John Allen Prescott son of Henry Prescott & Jane Howard.  He was b. Nov. 18, 1868 , d. July 28, 1925 .  Cassie and John are b. Corinth Cemetery, Charlton County .

8) Wade Hampton Ammons, b. Mar. 30, 1867, d. Oct. 22, 1929, m. 1) Minnie Hickox daughter of Leonard Hickox & Laney McClain, Minnie was b. Sept. 4, 1881, d. Aug 17, 1919, m. 2) Della Sykes, b. in 1880 d. Aug. 17, 1922, m. 3) Minnie Myrtle Newton daughter of John Newton & Suzannah Thomas, b. Aug 2, 1873, d. Mar. 23, 1949.  Wade, Minnie, Della and Winnie are all b. in High Bluff Cemetery .

9) Hettie Ammons, b. Mar. 22, 1869 , d. Oct. 30, 1941 , m. Claude Wilson “Dock” Prescott, Mar. 27, 1895 , son of Henry Prescott & Jane Howard, Claude was b. Nov. 16, 1870 , d. Mar. 31, 1942 .  Hettie & Claude are b. in Corinth Cemetery .
