Waving Georgia Flag CONFEDERATE VETERANS BURIED IN BRANTLEY COUNTY, GEORGIA

Thanks to Gaynell H. Sasser, and Jerry Van Herrin for researching and verifying documentation, we can make available to the public a list of Confederate Soldiers buried in Brantley County.

Gaynell said, "We went to each grave, wrote down the information, placed a Confederate grave flag on each grave site, and researched each one in my Civil War Reference Books."

Strickland, Henry -----------------------------High Bluff, born 24 July 1842 and died 15 May 1920; father, John Strickland; mother, Mercy Martin; Spouses,  M\1: Ellen Griffin, M\2: Ellender "Ellen" Griffin.  He lived just inside of Ware County, enlisting on September 22, 1862 in company A, 24th Batt. Georgia Calvary at Waynesville, Ga.  The 24th Batt Georgia Calvary became part of the 7th Regiment Georgia Calvary by S.O. dated 13 Feb. 1864; promoted to Corporal on the muster roll 30 Apr 1864, and to First Corporal 27 Apr, 1864; listed on roll, 31 Oct 1864, he was absent in the hands of the enemy 11 June 1864.  He was captured in Virginia at the Louisa County Courthouse 11 June 1864, and was imprisoned at the Union's worst prison at Elmira, New York which was known as Hellmira by those imprisoned there.  He was released 16 June 1865.  Submitted by Ms. Norma Jean Strickland Martin, g-grandaughter, e-mail mailto:revjeanmar@aol.com
