1833 - 1910

Edward Thomas Griffin 

Edward Thomas Griffin was born May 02, 1833 in Bulloch County to James Griffin, Sr.*Indian Wars* and Nancy Burnside. died March 02, 1910. He married Mary Margaret Mizell, abt. 1855 in Charlton County, daughter of Owen Mizell and Nancy Wright. She was born February 13, 1841.

 

Children of Edward and Mary were:

 

1. Owen James, born 1860, died after 1880.

 

2. Edward Jackson, born April 24, 1861, died March 11, 1914; he married Melissa Guy, March 08, 1883 in Pierce County, Georgia, daughter of William Guy and Emeline Strickland. She was born September 04, 1866 and died April 06, 1948. Edward and Melissie are buried in High Bluff Cemetery.

 

3. Sarah Elizabeth "Sally," born May 22, 1864 and died November 20, 1936. She married Athley Ashley Ammons October 04, 1882; son of James Ammons and Catherine Robinson. He was born March 01, 1856 in Georgia and died June 27, 1925. They are buried at High Bluff Cemetery.

 

4. Mary Jane "Janie," born February 18, 1865, Pierce County, Ga. died January 16, 1923, Brantley County, GA. She married Charles Wright "Charlie" Walker, January 20, 1884; Pierce County, Ga. He was born July 27, 1859 in Cordele, GA. and died March 02, 1941. They are buried in Pierce Chapel Cemetery, Brantley County, Ga.

 

5. Newton Noah, born November 28, 1867 and died March 04, 1889, he is buried in High Bluff Cemetery, never married.

 

6. Willis, born 1869, married Mollie White, April 20, 1889, Pierce County.

 

7. Joseph A. "J.A.," was born May 04, 1871, and died August 17, 1905 with Typhoid fever. He married Mary Lee December 25, 1895 in Pierce County, GA, daughter of George and Serena Miller. She was born March 22, 1875 and died October 16, 1907 with Typhoid fever. They are buried in High Bluff Cemetery.

 

8. Walter J., born 1874, died after 1880.

 

9. Everette, born 1877, died after 1880.

 

10. Margaret "Maggie," born June 27, 1880, died February 15 1939; married Elery H. Geiger, August 19, 1906, Pierce County, Margaret is buried in Hoboken Cemetery, Hoboken, GA.

 

11. Arthur Calvin, born February 25, 1883; died October 18, 1959, married Angie Lena Mae Eason, December 18, 1906, Ware County born May 22, 1883, died May 22, 1944.

 

Edward was a private from June 27, 1861 in Co. B, 29th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee, CSA. He was captured at Marietta, GA, on July 2, 1864. He was released at Camp Morton, Indiana on March 20, 1865.

 

Mary died July 21, 1905 and Edward died March 02, 1910. They are buried in High Bluff Cemetery.

Military service was researched and a grave stone was ordered by Gaynell H. Sasser on August 26, 2004. Jerry Van Herrin placed the stone on November 11, 2004.
