Peter Griffin

Peter Griffin was born October 22, 1840 in Bulloch County, Georgia to William M. and Cynthia (Strickland) Griffin. He married Margaret "Margie" Thrift, 1860, daughter of Carr and Unity (Albritton) Thrift. She was born 1843 in Cowhouse Island, Okefenoke Swamp in Ware County, Georgia.

 

Peter Griffin enlisted into the Confederate Army on March 1, 1862, as a Private in the 26th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. He was separated August 16, 1862 because of a disability at Richmond, Va.

 

Children of Peter and Margie are:

 

1. William Owen, born April 25, 1867, Ware County, died November 25, 1954. Married Mary Martin January 08, 1885, Ware County, she was born January 12, 1869 and died November 11, 1947. Buried in New Home Cemetery, Offerman, Georgia.

 

2. Sarah E. "Sallie," born September 25, 1868 and died December 12, 1926. Buried in High Bluff Cemetery.

 

3. Peter J. "Jack," born June 26, 1870, Ware County, died September 05, 1953. Married Nancy Steedley abt 1892; born December 26, 1874; died January 23, 1956.

 

4. J. Robert "Bob," born April 10, 1873,Ware County, February 01, 1953; married Susan Pittman; born September 03, 1866; died September 20, 1935.

 

5. David Patrick "Pat," born September 14, 1875, Ware County, died February 14, 1953. He married Missourie M. Martin, daughter of Joseph and Calidonia (O'Berry) Martin, *CSA*. She was born October 06, 1875, and died June 08, 1948. They are buried in High Bluff Cemetery.

 

6. Mollie Mary, born 1877, Ware County, died 1926; married Jesse Sedgewick, abt. 1893; he was born 1871, died in 1930.

 

7. Cynthia Ann "Cynthie," born 1880, She married William Irving Albritton April 12, 1894. He was born February 1878. No death dates or places of burial.

 

8. Joseph D. "Joe," born September 25, 1882, Ware County, died 1964; married Winnie Henderson; born August 18, 1884.

 

9. Mathew Mark "Math," born October 29, 1886, Ware County; died November 12, 1961; married Emiline Albritton, March 15, 1908; born October 29, 1891; November 20, 1974.

 

10. Lilly Rosabelle, born March 21, 1887, Ware County; died April 09, 1947. She married Thomas Jefferson "Sick Tom" Cox January 11, 1900, son of Thomas Cox and Mary Beverly. He was born November 08, 1861 and died March 18, 1947. Buried in High Bluff Cemetery.

 

Peter Griffin enlisted in "The War Between the States" as a private March 01, 1862. Discharged, disability at Richmond , Va. August 16, 1862. (Born in Ware County, October 22, 1840). He entered Company K, 26th Infantry. Clinch and Ware Counties, Georgia (Forest Rangers) Peter died October 06, 1916 and his wife, Margie died September 16, 1927. Both are buried in High Bluff Cemetery.

Military service was researched and a grave stone was ordered by Gaynell H. Sasser in 2004, and was installed in 2004 (Lawton-Gordon-Evans Brigade UDC Chapter #2637 dedicated this marker on October 18, 2004).
