William Beverly Hargraves was the son of Thomas and Nancy ( Beverly ) Hargraves, who were born in Anderson County , South Carolina .  William was born in Ware County February 2, 1842.  His mother Nancy was a daughter of William Beverly.  Nancy was born in 1814 and died 1880.  His father was born September 17, 1797 and died May 21, 1860.  Both are buried in Hargraves Cemetery .

William’s grandfather was Christopher Hargreaves, born in Laund, Colne Parrish, Lancashire , England .  Christopher was the fourth son of James E. Hargreaves of Laund.  The name of James E. Hargreaves' wife and mother of Christopher is not known. William’s grandmother was Priscilla Gibbs Ward, widowed mother of three sons when Christopher married her on January 7, 1794.  Priscilla and Christopher had three more sons, Abraham, and twins, John and Thomas.  Abraham was born on September 23, 1794, and the twins John and Thomas were born on September 17, 1797.  The twins were John, called "Jack" and Thomas, the last-born twin. William married Elizabeth Walden, daughter of Charles Walden in March of 1861.  Elizabeth was born May 10, 1842.  William and Elizabeth had the following children:

2. Mary Jane b. 22 MAR 1863, d. 23 AUG 1936 m. David C. McDaniel Jun 08, 1876. Buried in Hargraves Cemetery , Manor, GA.

3. William Thomas b. 12 APR 1864,d. 24 FEB 1926 m. Mattie Delia Wilson (later divorced). Buried in Hargraves Cemetery .

4. Charles Hardy.b. JAN 1866,d, FEB 1908 m. Mary Willie Dunn before 1893. Buried in City Cemetery , Antonio , Texas .

5. John M. Lafayette b. 14 JAN 1867 m. 1^st Sarah Ellen Vining May 24, 1889.d. 09 JUL 1915       m 2^nd Ella Prescott Crosby; buried in Socrum Cemetery , Providence , FL.

6. Joseph Abraham b. 18 SEP 1868 m. Mollie E. Clark February 12, 1895. Buried in Hargraves Cemetery .

7. Alice Elizabeth b. 08 MAR 1870,d. 01 JUN 1901 m. Thomas M. Bennett August 4, 1885.Buried in Hargraves Cemetery .

8. Susan Prisccilla b. 10 AUG 1871 m. Walter Lee Bennett April 22, 1885, d. 22 DEC 1912 Buried in Hargraves Cemetery .

9. Sarah Adaline b. 13 JUN 1873, d. 13 APR 1951 m. Freeman S. O’Steen Mar 13, 1895.

10. Millicent Lucretia b.15 NOV 1874, d. 08 MAY 1959, m. Benjamin F. Herrin April 24, 1892. Buried in Garden of Memories , Tampa , FL.

Elizabeth died November 25, 1875 and was buried in Hargraves Cemetery . William’s second wife was Appie Spivey.  They were married in December of 1875 and they had the following children:

12. Juliann Delilah b. MAY 1889,d. 1933 m. Joseph O. Bennett January 24, 1895. Buried in Hargraves Cemetery .

14. Paul b. 23 DEC 1883 m. Appie Harrell June 13, 1915, d. 01 JUL 1935 Buried in Hargraves Cemetery

15. Ellen Elizabeth b. 07 SEP 1884 d. 24 DEC 1936 m. Joseph I. Bennett March 30, 1899, Buried in Hargraves Cemetery .

16. Simon Peter b. 14 JAN 1887, d. 25 OCT 1917 m. Martha L. Messer April 07, 1907, Buried in Hargraves Cemetery .

17. Dorcus Martin b. m. John T. Morgan May 21, 1905

18 James b. 1889, d. 19 SEP 1912 m. Nancy Webster December 26, 1910, Buried in Hargraves Cemetery

19. Nellie Sylvania b. 09 JUN 1891, d. 17 SEP 1960 m. 1^st Lewis Arnold August 6, 1906, m. 2^nd David Ebenezer O’Berry May 19, 1909 buried in Hargraves Cemetery .

20.  Infant daughter b. 1893,d. 1893  

William enlisted in Co. I, 4^th Georgia Cavalry Regiment, CSA at Homerville , GA in January 1863 and served until the end of the war William died August 6, 1907 and Appie died October 10, 1923.  They are buried in Hargraves Cemetery , Manor, GA.

Military service was researched and a grave stone was ordered by Gaynell H. Sasser on September 21, 2004.  The Hargraves family picked up grave marker on December 16, 2004, and placed it in the Hargraves Cemetery.
