DANIEL O. HARPER, *CSA*  1842 - 1923

Daniel O. Harper

Daniel was born August 12, 1842, died on November 30, 1923.

Born c1846 in Georgia , buried in North Oak Grove Cemetery in Camden County , Georgia .  His father was James Harper, Jr. (born c. 1826 in Georgia ), son of James, Sr. & Mary Smith Harper (born c. 1826 in Georgia ). This is shown in 1850 & 1860 Wayne County , Georgia Census.

The 1870 Wayne County , Georgia Census shows Daniel, age 23 with wife Leetie Popwell, age 20.  (Perhaps Leetie is meant for Lydia ?) The 1880 Wayne County , Georgia Census shows Daniel, age 34, with wife Jane, age 25. (This could be a different wife or error in age, plus sometimes people gave a name one time in a census & the next time gave something else.)

Wayne County , Georgia marriage book shows that Daniel Harper married Mrs. L. Popwell on Dec. 9, 1865.  (Popwell apparently was the surname of her first husband and she was a young widow.)  Contributed by: Dorothy  Johns Thomas

Daniel O. Harper enlisted into the Confederate Army on May 16, 1862, as a Private in Company A, 4th (Clinch's) Georgia Cavalry.  His last date of service was recorded on October 20, 1864.

Military service was researched and a grave stone was ordered by Gaynell H. Sasser on October 31, 2004, and was installed by Jerry Van Herrin on January 13, 2005.
