John Adams Johns was born 7 October 1839 in Charlton County and was the ninth child of Jeremiah and Mary Ann McClellan Johns. Records show that he was a private in Company D, 26th Georgia Infantry and enlisted on 29 July 1861 at Satilla, GA for a period of 12 months and was signed in by Capt. J. C. Nicholls. His records show that his last report for muster roll was for January and February 1862. There is no further record and it is assumed that he died in service. Family records show that he was never married.
