ARTHUR BERRY "ARTABERRY" KELLY *CSA*1842-1918 

Arthur Berry “Arterberry” Kelly was born April 1842 to John W. and Nancy (Ammons) Kelly and died in 1918; married Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Willis, January 05,1865 in Wayne, County, Georgia; daughter of James and Gatsey (Lewis) Willis.  She was born October 10, 1844 in Wayne County , and died March 12, 1917 in Wayne County .  They are buried in Smyrna Cemetery .

Arthur Berry “Artaberry” Kelly and three of his brothers enlisted in “The War Between The States”, July 29, 1861 together.  Company *C, 26th Regiment , Georgia Volunteer Infantry; Army of Northern Virginia ; C.S.A.; Camden and Wayne Counties , Georgia ; Seaboard Guards

    (1)  Kelly, Arterberry B ---Private July 29, 1861 .  Wounded above left elbow, arm         permanently disabled, at Winchester , Virginia , September 19, 1864 .  Roll dated November 04, 1864 .  Last on file, shows him absent, wounded.  Pension records show he was at home on wounded furlough at close of war

    (2) Kelly, Charles --- Private July 29, 1861 .  Captured, date and place not given.  Exchanged February 01, 1864 .  Roll dated November 04, 1864 , last on file, shows him absent, sick.  No later record.

     (3) Kelly, John W. --- Private July 29, 1861 .  On guard duty February 28, 1862 ; No Later record

    (4) Kelly, Sherod S. --- Private July 29, 1861 .  Roll dated November 04, 1864 , last on file, shows him present.  No later record. 

Children born to Artaberry and Betty Kelly were:

  1. Annie Elenor Rozella, born October 15, 1865, Wayne County, and died February 16, 1944, Brantley County; She married Franklin Lynell Stewart, February 21, 1884; He was born February 26, 1862 in Wayne County and died August 11, 1938 in Brantley County.  They are buried in Hortense Cemetery , Hortense , Georgia .
  2. Katherine “Kate”, born April 26, 1867, Wayne County; died January 03, 1966 in Brantley County; married Enoch Parrott October 04, 1893; he was born June 25, 1860 and died January 18, 1922.  They are buried in Smyrna Cemetery near Lulaton , Georgia .
  3. Gatsey, born cir. 1869, She married Sampson Wayne C. Herrin, son of Daniel and Jemima (Ammons) Herrin; he was born May 09, 1854 in Wayne County .  It is not known where they are buried.
  4. Octavia, born cir 1871
  5. Mary, born cir 1873; married Tom Presnell
  6. Bertha, born cir 1876                       
  7. Oceola, born cir 1878
  8. Gertrude, born 1880
  9. James Breckinridge, born October 20, 1881 in Wayne County and died June 26, 1959 in Keysville, Georgia.  He married Hattie Lou Dycie Drury July 13, 1902 in Wayne County; daughter of Samuel and Lou Dycie (Ammons) Drury; she was born September 04, 1884 in Wayne County, and died August 04, 1976 in Glynn-Brunswick Hospital; Brunswick, Georgia.  They are buried in Smyrna Cemetery near Lulaton.
