JOHN . A. MANNING *CSA* 1837 - 1927

John A. Manning was born in 1837 and died 1927.  We have not found parents for John.  He married 1st Martha Ann Cooper, November 29, 1855 , born 1833 and died 1903.  Married 2nd H. French Gibson daughter of John R. and Jane Elizabeth ( Harrison ) Gibson Jr, she was born 1858 and died October 16, 1923 .  John and Martha Ann are buried in Hortense Cemetery in Hortense , Georgia .  H. French is buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery , east side of Brantley County , Georgia .

John A. Manning enlisted as a private August 17, 1861 .  Transferred to Company “L” August 31, 1861; to Company B, 4th Regiment Georgia Cavalry (Clinch’s) February 4, 1864 .  Roll for June 30, 1864 , last on file, shows him present.  No later record.

Children of John and Martha Manning were:

1.      James Manning, born 1856 and died 1951.  He married Martha Jane “Mattie” Joyner, January 10, 1878 , in Wayne County , daughter of Charles and Mary (Bennett) Joyner.  She was born 1860, died in 1950.  They are buried in Hortense Cemetery , Hortense , Georgia

2.      Martin Manning, born 1860

3.      J.W. Manning, born 1873
