LEWIS P. MANNING *CSA* 1838 - 1910

 Lewis Manning was born March 04, 1838 and died February 20, 1910 ; the son of John Jackson “Jack” and Mary Ann (Burney) Manning.  He married Mary Ann “Polly Ann” Crosby , April 07, 1859 in Wayne County, GA, daughter of Aaron and Mary ( Thornton ) Crosby.  Mary was born March 02, 1844 , and died December 12, 1921 .  Lewis and Mary are buried in Hortense Cemetery in Hortense , GA.

Manning, Lewis P. --- Private March 04, 1862 , Roll for February 28, 1865 , last on file, shows him absent, sick. Paroled at Thomasville , Ga. May 23, 1865 .  He enlisted in Company “A”, 50th Regiment , Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of  Northern Virginia, C.S.A. Pierce County , Georgia , Satilla Rangers.

Children of Lewis and Mary Manning were:

  1. Mary Manning, born in 1853
  2. Alexander “Alex” Manning, born July 20, 1862; died October 15, 1931; married Elizabeth “Lizzie” Rooks, daughter of William Edward and Mary M. (West) Rooks, CSA, Elizabeth was born June 11, 1876 and died November 02, 1961.  They are buried in Hortense Cemetery .
  3. Aaron Mitchel Manning, born 1866
