NEW GRAVE STONE MARKERS

CIVIL WAR - INDIAN WAR - WWI  VETERANS

It was not uncommon in the earlier pioneer days for grave markers to be constructed of "seasoned-fat-lightered pine wood," and  occasionally cement.  Regardless of which substance, these materials deteriorated over the years leaving no identification.   Loyal patriots in Brantley County, Betty Ammons McGuire and Gaynell Highsmith Sasser have researched archives (CSA and Indian War), verified military service, and have obtained replacement "granite stone markers" from the U.S. Veteran Affairs Divison.   Jerry Van Herrin,  Art Keene and Linton Herrin have helped with the installations.  The Lanier of Glynn Chapter #2354, Brunswick, Georgia United Daughters of the Confederacy dedicated six Confederate grave markers in March 2002, during Gaynell H. Sasser's term as president.  We owe these dedicated patriots a debt of thanks (CLICK ON NAME LINK, IF AVAILABLE, TO VIEW PHOTO OF "BURIAL STONE" AND  OTHER COMMENTS).
