The Seaboard Guards was organized on July 29,
1861, and was immediately ordered to Brunswick. It's officers were Captain John
C. Nicholls, 1st Lt. Harley Jones, 2nd Lt. James Knox, and Jr. 2nd Lt. John F.
Highsmith.

surrendered to enemy at Charles Town, W. Va. Mar. 1865. Took oath of allegiance
to U.S. Government and sent north Mar. 20, 1865. Born in Appling County, Ga.

1836.- Enlisted as a Private on Oct. 9, 1861 at Brunswick. Killed in battle on
Aug. 17, 1864.
HERRIN, James H. - Born December 23, 1839. Enlisted as a Private on Oct. 9,
1861, in the Seaboard Guards. Wounded, and surrendered, at Tallahassee, Fla. on
May 10, 1865. He was paroled at Thomasville, Ga. May 25, 1865. He is
buried at Rob Lewis Cemetery at Raybon.
HERRIN, James M.- 2nd Lieutenant July 29, 1861. Private from
1863. Wounded at Spotsylvania, Va. May 12, 1864. Captured at Waynesboro, Va.
March 2, 1865. Released at Fort Delaware, Del. June 15, 1865. (Born in Wayne
County, Ga. April 8, 1834)
HERRIN, John D. (Also known as John Daniel Herrin), born July
27, 1841. Enlisted as a Private on July 29, 1861, at Satilla, Ga. He was
killed in battle at Spotsylvania, Va. May 10, 1864.
HICKOX, David J. - Private Apr. 10, 1863. Transferred to
Company K. Killed July 18, 1864.
HICKOX, Perry - Private July 29, 1861. Wounded in left thigh
at 2d Manassas, Va. Aug. 30, 1862; through right arm at Marye’s Heights, Va. May
22, 1863. Captured near Petersburg, Va. Mar. 25, 1865. Released at Point
Lookout, Md. June 28, 1865. Born in Pierce County, Ga. September 22, 1837.
HIGHSMITH, Aaron H. - Private April 9, 1862. Wounded in right
hand and in foot, date and place not given. Surrendered Appomattox, Va. April 9,
1865. Born in Wayne County, Ga. in 1844, and died there November 6, 1913.
Believed to be the son of David (1802-1860).
HIGHSMITH, Daniel - Private July 29, 1861. Appointed 3d
Corporal July 30, 1863. Wounded and captured at Winchester, Va. September 19,
1864, and admitted to U.S.A Field Hospital there, with compound fracture of
femur; died there September 19, 1864. Believed to be the son of David
(1802-1860)

Sergeant. Discharged, having been elected to civil office, March 16, 1864.

Spotsylvania, Va. May 12, 1864. Roll For August 31, 1864, last on file, shows
him absent, wounded. Pension records show he was discharged, on account of
wounds, in 1864. Born in Wayne County, Ga. Dec. 4, 1834.
