ROSTER OF COMPANY "E" PERSONNEL

Company "E" of the 26th Georgia Regiment was previously designated "Old Company "L" from Twiggs County.

The new Company "E", now designated Wiregrass Minutemen, is from Ware County, Georgia.

The roster is presented in three segments, alphabetically; "A" THRU "J", starting with this Page, 1 of 3.

The new Company "E", Wiregrass Minutemen, was organized April 18, 1861, and was made up of men mostly from Ware County. Officers election were held on May 10th, 1861: Captain John Lee; 1st Lt. E. Louis Pearce; 2nd Lt. James Riggins; Jr. 2nd Lt. John A. Hogans.

LEE, John - 1st Sergeant April 18, 1861. Elected Jr. 2d Lieutenant September 4, 1861. Wounded in left arm at 2d Manassas, Va., August 28, 1862. Elected Captain May 8, 1862. Resigned January 16, 1863.

 

LYON, Charles R. - 2d Sergeant April 18, 1861. Absent without leave May 1, 1862 - August 31, 1864. No later record.

 

SWEAT, Bryant - 3d Sergeant April 18, 1861. Appointed 1st Sergeant May 10, 1862. Wounded in breast at Snicker's Gap, Va. July 18, 1864. Died of wounds in General Hospital at Winchester, Va. July 21, 1864.

 

MYERS, George C. - 4th Sergeant April 18, 1861. Detailed ordnance Sergeant at Brunswick, Ga., September 4, 1861. Appointed Quartermaster Sergeant. Elected 2d Lieutenant of Co. K, this Regiment, October 18, 1864. Paroled, Thomasville, Ga., May 23, 1865.

 

FLETCHER, Joseph C. - 1st Corporal April 18, 1861. Appointed 1st Sergeant September 4, 1861. Appears last on roll for February 28, 1862.
