DAVID REED ROWELL *CSA* 

 David enlisted in the Confederate States Army as a private in Co. K 2nd Regt.1st Brigade Georgia State Troops Oct. 10, 1861 .  He was discharged Dec. 28, 1861 .  He enlisted as a private in Co. B, 54th Regt. Ga. Inf. Sept. 23, 1962 .  Roll dated Feb. 28, 1863 , only roll on file, shows him present.  He enlisted as a private in Clinch’s Battery GA. Light Artillery Apr. 24, 1864 .  He was sent home with typhoid fever Sept. 6, 1864 and was unable to rejoin command.

DAVID REED ROWELL, *CSA* was born Sept. 1, 1845 , a son of James A. & Temperance “Tempie” (Dowling) Rowell.  David married Louisiana “Lucy” Grooms Sept. 25, 1867 , daughter of Josiah & Sara (Hagen/Hagan) Grooms.  Lucy was born Nov. 9, 1841 . David and Lucy’s children:

1. James Joseph “Jim”, b. June 4, 1868 , d. Dec 3, 1932 ; m. Australia “Aussie” Blount, 13 OCT 1889, b. Dec.10, 1874 d. Nov. 23, 1957, Daughter of Alexander & Mary  Margaret (Jones) Highsmith Blount, Buried in Smyrna Cemetery, Brantley Co., GA.

2. John Reed, b. Apr. 17, 1870 , died cir 1921;   m. Bessie Lee “Sis” Blocker, May 4, 1892 , b. Jan. 18, 1877 , d. Jan. 5, 1955, Daughter of John Jasper & Margaret (Johns) Blocker.  John Reed is buried in New Hope Cemetery, Brantley Co., GA and Bessie is buried in California .

3. Louisiana “Lou”, b. Sept. 29, 1871 , d. Apr. 8, 1948 ;   Never marriedl;   Buried in New Hope Cemetery .

4. Sarah Ellen “Bush”, b Oct. 3, 1874 , d. July 3, 1957   m. John Bailey Wainright June 10, 1903, b. Sept. 26, 1870   d. May 18, 1946, Son of Noah & Elizabeth (Knox) Wainright.  Buried in Knox Cemetery, Brantley Co., GA..  

5. Mary J., b. abt. 1876, probably died young.

 6. Monique “Monnie”,             b. Jan. 20,1878 , d. Apr. 30, 1949; m. James Jesse “Little Jimmy” Griffin b.Nov.11, 1882  d. May 21, 1941. Son of James P. & Frances Rhoda Ann. (Raulerson) Griffin .  Buried New Hope Cemetery .

 7. David Franklin “Frank”, b. Mar. 17, 1881, d May 11, 1965; m. 1st Julia Vashti Lynn   March 18, 1881  d. Dec. 31, 1918, Daughter of Julia Maranda Lynn.  m. 2nd Emma Conner b. Apr. 11, 1891   d. Mar. 30, 1978 , Daughter of Mary Conner.  Frank, Julia, and Emma are buried in New Hope Cemetery .

 8. Clifford Frank, b. Jan. 4, 1882 , d. Aug 9, 1951 ;  m. Ruth Bell Oct. 13, 1907 , b. Oct. 7, 1889 ,  d. Sept  3, 1981 , Daughter of Leonard & Laranie (Lynn) Bell .  Buried in New Hope Cemetery

 9. Ronelda “Nellie”, b. June 20, 1885 , d. Jan. 23, 1979 ; m. Willie Elwood Knox, Mar. 23, 1907 b. June 18, 1887  d. Mar. 21, 1935 Son of Wiley Franklin & Nancy (Johns) Knox.  Buried in Bethlehem Cemetery .

 David Reed Rowell died in 1915.  Louisiana “Lucy” (Grooms) Rowell died in 1917.  They are buried in New Hope Cemetery .

Military service was researched and a stone was ordered and placed by David Stewart in 2003. A dedication service was conducted on April 24, 2004, by the U.D.C.
