WILLIAM JOHN SALLENS *CSA* 1843 - 1911

    William John Sallens was born November 15, 1843.  We haven’t found any background of where he came.  William enlisted May 29, 1861 as a Private into the Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Company “K”, 26th Regiment, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A., Glynn County, Georgia; Brunswick Rifles or Brunswick Riflemen.  Mustered out July 31, 1861.

    He married Margaret A. “Maggie” Westberry, daughter of John and Matilda (Arnett) Westberry born May 13, 1865 , Wayne County , Georgia , and died March 19, 1931 .  William died July 16, 1911 .  Both are buried in Hortense Cemetery , Hortense , Georgia .

Military service was researched and a stone was ordered by Gaynell H. Sasser on November 20, 2004.  The stone was installed by Jerry Van Herrin and Linton Herrin on January 19, 2004.
