Rev. Soldier, John Williamson Sr. moved from Jackson Co. to Butts Co. c.
1826. He is buried in the Williamson/Knowles Cemetery on the lot he won in the
1822 State Land Lottery. Son, John Williamson Jr., never lived in Butts Co. He
died in Jackson Co.-October 25, 1849. John Jr., along with his son-Nathan C.
Williamson served as co-executors of the older man's estate in 1832/33. Nathan
moved to Butts Co. shortly before his grandfather's death, and inherited 600
acres, and three slaves. Nathan married Irena Summerlin in Butts Co. in 1832.
The couple had two known children, before divorcing in September 1839-[Thomas J.
Williamson m. Eliza Ingram; and, Winney Ann Williamson m. (1)Thomas H.
Stallsworth & (2) Eldridge Barlow].
Nathan became crippled by falling into a well, and returned to his father's in
Jackson Co. with two children, and two small slaves, for approximately two
years. There is no indication that his wife accompanied him. On the advise of a
lawyer, Nathan deeded his Butts Co. land to his father, so that he could "put
her off of his plantation". John Jr. deeded the land back to Nathan in
February(?)1849. Nathan C. Williamson married Agness Thompson in June 1840. The
couple had five known children. Three died quite young, and are buried beneath
small stone vaults, matching that of their father(provided for in 1855 estate
records). Two children lived to maturity: Lavonia C. Williamson m. James B.
Knowles; and Mary Elizabeth Williamson m. John J. Buffington.
