Will of James Akin, Clarke County Georgia 1817
I, James Akin do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following that
is to say.
1st I give and bequeath unto the children of my daughter Nancy one dollar
amongst them.
2 I give and bequeath unto my two sons James and John Akin and to my two daughters Jeanett
Herring and Milly Nix one dollar each.
3d I give and bequeath unto my daughter Dinah Morris one cow and calf.
I would wish it to be understood, that the above mentioned legacies are given in addition
to that the above named legatees may have already received from me, and to finally
discharge any further claim or expectation which they may have upon me or my estate.
4th I give and bequeath unto my son Wm. Akin the land upon which he at present resides
estimated at seventy five acres more or less to....Spring branch down said branch as it
meanders to my line comprehending part of my cane break.
5th I lend unto my beloved wife Francis Akin the whole of the remainder of my estate both
real and personal, during her natural life, and upon her decease I give and bequeath the
same to my six unmarried daughters to wit, Betty, Francis, Polly, Salley, Tabby, and
Rhonda, Or to those who may be living of them at the term of the decease of their Mother
Francis Akin to be equally divided among them.
It is my express wish and desire that the said property described as
aforesaid to my six unmarried daughters aforesaid shall be kept as free from want as
possible and shall remain and be kept undivided as long as possible without inconvenience
to them in order that they may always have independent home.
Lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Francis Akin my executrix
and my son Wm Akin my executor to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all
other or former wills or testaments by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 23rd day of
June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & thirteen.

Personally appeared in open court William B. Cole and Thomas Hyche Two of the subscribers
witness to the...will and after being duly sworn on the holy Gospel deposeth and saith
that they saw James Akin.......seal and acknowledge the......instrum.....to be his last
will and testament and that......of sound mind and memory at the time of his so doing ant
that they saw Benjamin Wills sign the same as a witness and that they signed the same as
witnesses also.
