These pages are dedicated to the
cotton mill town of Milstead, Georgia. I hope this site will help to
preserve the rich history of this town for those who have lived there or,
like me, spent childhoods visiting grandparents in Milstead.
I want to thank
Prentis Ollis for the
inspiration to do this site. I am following his example in what he has
done with a wonderful site full of memories of a sister mill town,
Porterdale, Georgia. Please visit his site by clicking
here.
Milstead and Porterdale are both situated on
the Yellow River. Both of these towns
have a special place in my heart as I grew up visiting my mother's family
in Porterdale and my father's family in Milstead.
I hope you enjoy what you find here - and I
hope you will share some of your own memories of Milstead with others
through this site!
I am trying to update this
site, it's looking dated. Unfortunately, the program I used to build it to
begin with isn't cooperating with me. While I try to give it a more up to
date look and hopefully make it easier to navigate, you will probably see
some changes going on. I hope I can get it looking better soon. I hope you
will bear with me!
If you would like to
share your memories, information, news and/or photos of Milstead, please
email
me at
shaw208@comcast.net.
Some people have asked to see photos or stories from the 1960s and later
years. If you have any you would be willing to share - please send them
and I'll upload them to the site.
If you would like to include a family group sheet just email it to me
and I'll upload it to the Milstead website.
Please let me know if you see any errors or omissions on this site -
I'll correct mistakes as soon as I can.
I'm redoing some pages on the site to try to make it easier to navigate
so things might be in different places.
Please consider including your info for the site! With
your contributions we can document the history of Milstead before it's
lost to history.
