Key to Abbreviations
As we have worked on the tombstones of Cobb County, we have discovered many interesting factoids that we would like to share. We cannot share all of them, but some are just too important not to share and might have lasting value for generations to come. For that reason, we have chosen to take the most important of these factoids and place them after a name, usually in all CAPS, to make it easier to find the information that you are looking for. As an example, suppose you were looking for a relative named Peter Groover who lived in the later half of the eighteenth century and first part of the nineteenth century. If you see a name that reads groover.peter-PATRIOT.jpg, you would know that this Peter Groover lived in that time frame and that he was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. Likewise, if you were looking for a relative named John Daniel Nelson who fought in the Civil War, it might be cumbersome to look for every John Daniel Nelson. However, if you found nelson.john-daniel-CSA.jpg, it is quite possible that you found your man. Also, INFANT, TODDLER, CHILD and TEEN might let people know that, where many individuals share a name, such as John Groover, one with one of those four words following his name is likely not an ancestor as that person was not yet able to have children, thus saving the time it takes to download that tombstone. Finally, if there is a name or a series of initials, it may represent the name by which the deceased person was known.
