Mr. Tomas J. (Tommie) Buchan

A prominent and respected Coffee Countian, Mr. Tomas J. (Tommie) Buchan, age 87, of Ambrose, Ga. passed away Sunday afternoon, July 28th, 1974 at the Patterson Hospital in Cuthbert, Ga. following a short illness.
Mr. Buchan, born Sept. 3, 1886 in Eastman, Ga. was the son of the late Peter and Emma Jane English Buchan. He was well-known by many in the Ambrose-Coffee County area and a member of the Methodist Church. He was a retired farmer.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 30th at 3:00 p.m. at the Bethany Holiness Church with Rev. Jimmie Sayer, pastor, officiating. Interment followed in the Bethany Church Cemetery. Williard Jones, Paul Hutcheson, Julian Sears and Derward Buchan provided singing and were accompanied by pianist, Mrs. Osbon Mills.
Pallbearers were J. W. Buchan, Tommie Lee Buchan, Alan Buchan, Donnie Buchan, Eddie Buchan and Wendell Buchan.
Mr. Buchan was survived by seven daughters: Mrs. Bernice Day, Douglas; Mrs. Cora Jowers, Fitzgerald; Mrs. Lessie Smith, Savannah; Mrs. Lucy Smith, Douglas; Mrs. Velma Larsen, Winter Haven, Fla.; Mrs. Verma Spikes, Hamilton, Ga.; Mrs. Qunnie Woods, Lumpkin, Ga.; five sons: Linton Buchan, Willie Buchan, Tim Buchan, all of Ambrose; Spergon Buchan, Lumpkin; Virgil Buchan, Broxton; one brother: Clarence Buchan, Lumpkin; four step-sons: Enoch Johns, Wray; J. C. Johns, Pearson; Charlie Johns, Clearmont, Fla.; Lonzo Johns, Jacksonville, Fla.; two step-daughters: Mrs. Annie Maude Royals, Vero Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Pauline Dowdy, Douglas; 35 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, three great great grandchildren.
Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
