Mr. Joseph Daniel "JD" Chaney, 88, of Douglas, Ga.,
passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at his home
following an extended illness.
Mr. Chaney, a native of Coffee County, Ga., was born
November 3, 1915, the son of the late Ernest and Janie
Spivey Chaney. He was a member of Chatterton Holiness
Baptist Church, was a retired carpenter, and the
widower of the late Alice Edna Music.
Survivors include: three daughters, Jeanette Westbrook
of Caledonia, Miss., and Wilene Smith and Melinda
Carver, both of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, Alton Chaney
of Frankfort, Ky., and Norman Chaney of Douglas, Ga.;
one sister, Hazel Johns of Douglas, Ga.; nine
grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and
severalnieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday,
October 23, 2004, at Sims Funeral Home Chapel, with
Rev. George Carroll Paulk and Rev. Gene Chaney
officiating. The Ronnie Chaney family sang "Daddy's
Hands" and "Stroll Over Heaven," with Ronnie Chaney
accompanying at the piano. Interment followed in the
Chatterton Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Charles Johns, Ernest Johns,
Don Phinazee, Terry Davis, Ben Carver, Raymond Johns,
and Albert Johns.
Honorary pallbearers were Coffee Regional Hospice and
Coffee County Visiting Nurses.
Sims Funeral Home of Douglas, Ga., was in charge of
arrangements.
