DENNIS BATTEN DIED TUESDAY
Dennis Batten, 58, s/o Elias Batten & Sallie Bratcher died Tuesday, January 5, at the local hospital after an illness of several days. His funeral was held this morning at Rocky Pond Church. Rev. Olen Bennett, the pastor officiated. Music was by Carlos Grantham, L. D. Grantham, Julian Sears, and Willard Jones, accompanied by Mrs. Lewis Sapp. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Agnes Pridgen Batten, Douglas; four daughters, Miss Ruth Batten, Forest Park, Miss Christine Batten, Atlanta, Mrs. Evelyn Ling, Clearwater, Fla., Mrs. Luke Peterson, Douglas; two sons, Jack and Rexford Batten, both of Douglas; three brothers, Henry, Sammy and Benajah Batten, all of Douglas; two sisters, Mrs. H. N. Grantham and Mrs. Oliver Corbitt, both of Douglas; also 10 grandchildren survive. Pallbearers were Johnnie Batten, James Batten, Clayton Corbitt, E. J. Brigmond, and Elmer Grantham. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Garrett, Clifford Harrell, Wiley Downs, C. L. Lott Sr., F. S. Stubbs Sr., Albert Malcolm, Dr. Calvin Meeks, Noah Holton, Earl Ricketson, and Mark Bell. Sims Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
