J. H. DENT DIED THURSDAY MORNING

The passing of Mr. Joshua H. Dent this Thursday morning about ten o'clock brought sadness and grief to hundreds of people in Douglas and Coffee County where he had lived practically his entire life.
Mr. Dent had been sick for several years, suffering of high blood pressure and the various complications it brings about, but was up and about until a few weeks ago when he was forced to remain close at home. For the past several days it was known that he could not live and that life was slowly ebbing away.
The best information we have at this hour before going to press is that the funeral will take place at the Douglas Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, and immediately afterwards the burial will be held at Sand Hill Baptist Church, a few miles from Douglas, where the membership of the deceased was. It has not been announced yet just who will conduct the funeral yet.
The deceased was 67 years old last December. For several years he had taken life quietly, not engaging in any work. Years ago he operated several small saw mills in this section, and the last occupation of any kind in which he was engaged, was the operation of the Novelty Works, the plant near the Douglas & Florida depot, which was later sold to Mr. McEachren.
Mr. Dent was the son of the late William Dent. His brothers were Rev. Henry Dent, Thomas H. Dent, Robert Dent, all dead. His sisters were Mrs. Carrie Nelms, Mrs. Georgia Cannon, Mrs. Johnnie Clements, and Miss Nelia Dent, all dead.
The deceased is survived by the following children, Walter Dent, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Ira Dent, of Douglas, and Mrs. W. M. King of Broxton. He is also survived by his widow, who was Miss Mary Ann Meeks before her marriage, a sister of Rev. H. M. Meeks.
Mr. Dent was an honorable citizen, had the respect of the entire community, and his life was one that would bear imitation. He loved humanity, was always ready to help his fellow man, and could be counted on at all times to do his part. He loved his church and in earlier years was very active in Church work, but his poor health of recent years checked his church activities to some extent. The community will miss this good man.
