Joseph Buchans

Funeral services for Mr Joseph (Jody) Buchans, 72, of Ambrose were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Bethany church by the Rev. Henry Sears. Mr. Buchans died at his home on the Douglas-Ocilla highway Sunday morning, April 9. Death came suddenly. He was a Holiness preacher for forty years. Survivors include his wife, the former Clara Smith, four sons: Leon Buchans, Macon; Quitman Buchans, and Clinton Buchans, Douglas; and Cordell Buchans, Jacksonville, Fla.; three step-sons, Odis Spivey, Ambrose, and Alton and Aldine Smith, Douglas; three daughters, Mrs. Sam Richardson, Wray; Mrs. Romie Lee, Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Mattie Surrency, Valdosta; three step-daughters, Mrs. Leonard Harper, Wray, Mrs. Roy Holman and Mrs. Marion Griffin, Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Clarence, Odis and Tommie Buchans, Douglas, and John Willie Buchans, Ambrose; one sister, Mrs. Leola Cook, Mulberry, Fla.; 41 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were: Willie Buchans, Aubrey Spivey, Bobby Buchans, Ottis Lee, Oswald Lee, and D.S. Sammons. Sims Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
