NOAH BURKETT, FORMER OFFICIAL, PASSES MONDAY
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church for Noah Burkett, 69. Rev. Barnette Ates, Rev. Law M. Mobley and Rev. McCoy Johnson officiated. Special music was by the Coffee County Quartette accompanied by Newton Tyson. Mr. Burkett died early Monday morning June 29, at his home near Douglas following an illness of several weeks. A prominent farmer, Mr. Burkett was a Tax Commissioner for Coffee County for many years. He had also served as Representative in the State Legislature. He was a member of the Lone Hill Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Fortune Burkett; two sons, N.C. Burkett, Douglas, J.M. Burkett, Macon; one daughter, Mrs. Carl Daniels, Douglas; one brother, Gray Burkett, Douglas; four sisters, Mrs. Nona Parks, West Green, Mrs. Ida Ellis, Mrs. Safronia Ellis, both of Douglas, Mrs. Neila Ellis of Jacksonville, Fla., and eight grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Elias B. Lott, Bobby Sinclair, Earl Burkhalter, Vinson Purvis, Eddie Cross and Sammie Roberts. Honorary pallbearers were C.D. Boggan, Oren Tanner, Claud Carelock Sr., Toby Tanner, Troy Meeks, Wendell Sears, J.H. Kight, R.S. Relihan, Elmer Smith, Winston Purvis, Austin Faircloth, Jimmie Wren, M.J. Williams, Zellner Norris, H.L. Shannon, Osborne Mills, Jack Taylor, Jim Lott, Simon Grantham, C.L. Lott, F.S. Stubbs, Dr. Dan Jardine, Hope Hulsey, H.J. Quincey, George Taylor, Marshall Ewing, John McLean, Marvin Kirkland, Dan Peterson, Milburn Gourley, Oswald Howell, Reynold Griffin, Marvin Gaskin, and Tom Deen. Sims Funeral Home handled the funeral arrangements.
