Jon Ellis   Sep 17, 1999 GRAYSON   HUGHES   PORTER   SMITH
I have heard that someone on this list has the Dade Times in their
possession and are transcribing them. I am looking for any articles on the
"Triple Hanging" that occurred on Aug.1,1884 in Scottsboro, Jackson County,
AL. It involved George and Asbury Hughes from Shellmound, Marion
County, TN - their stepfather John W. Grayson, I think that he was
from somewhere near Shellmound but in AL - another young man by the
name of George Smith from Dade County, GA. They were accused of
burning Henry Porter's home on Porter's Bluff. If anyone has any
information about this hanging or copies of any newspaper accounts of this
hanging, please email me. Also if anyone knows of any photos that were ever
taken of this event. The hanging took place in Scottsboro, Jackson County,
AL. Also if anyone knows what happened to John W. Grayson or where
George Smith was buried. The two Hughes boys were buried on their father's
farm in Rhea County, TN. Their mother was Catherine Margaret Mathis
Hughes Grayson. I would like to know what happened to mother after they
died. I would also like to know about the Smith family and the Porter's. I
know that Mr. Porter died a few months before the hanging and Mrs. Porter
died about 13 years later. They are buried on Porter's Bluff. If any one
is interested in this story, or can give me more information, please contact
me. Thank you so much.

Looking for any info on my grandfather "William Thomas McDonald" born
15 Feb 1893 & raised in GA. He was a soldier stationed in NYC before being
shipped overseas. He met my grandmother, Alma Davis McDonald and they
eloped against family wishes and were married in the Little Church Around
the Corner, NYC. His son "William Wallace McDonald" was born in 1918.
(Wallace presumed to be family name on his father's side). Two months later
William Thomas McDonald was killed while protecting his buddies in a
heroic act in battle in France. No pictures survived as my grandmother's
family was against the marriage - they were destroyed by them.

survived but I would like to have more info. for my children/grand-children.
Anyone have an ancestor that was killed during WWII in their genealogy
records by this name? Thank you.
