Last week there stopped at Brown's Hotel, Macon, an entertaining old gentleman, uncle Sam Rookongly. He was 80 odd years of age and on his way home to Philadelphia. He married in Elbert County in 1824, where he had just been visiting. He met only three men there with who he was acquainted at the time of his marriage, Senator Hester, Thos. Heard and John Henry Jones. The old gentleman claims that a southern woman made a christian out of him and he is still strong in his southern feelings though living in the north.
