Evans County is located in south central Georgia, not far from Chatham County, where Georgia was founded. Evans County was created by an act of the Georgia legislature in 1914 from Bulloch and Tattnall Counties, so it is a rather young county in comparison with Chatham County and many of the older counties. It was named for General Clement A. Evans, who commanded Gordon's Division up and through the surrender of the Confederacy of Appromattox Courthouse.
