Harvey J. Smith, 60, 18 Park St., Cave Spring, died Friday, (September 11, 1981) in a Rome hospital following an extended illness of two years. He was born in Cherokee County, Ala., Sept. 4, 1921, son of Oscar Smith and the late Omie Alexander Smith. He had been a resident of Cave Spring most of his like and was a member of the Cave Spring Baptist Church. Prior to ill health, he was employed by the Marietta Daily Journal for 17 years. Survivors include the widow, the former Evelyn Pruitt, whom he married, Jan. 5, 1946; one son Sammy Smith, Cave Spring; one daughter, Mrs. Vicky Jacobs, Rome; father Oscar Smith, Cedartown; three brothers, Earl Smith, Lindale, Horace Smith, Centre, Ala., Marvin Smith, Rome; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Pruitt, Cave Spring; four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Cave Spring Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Cave Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers include, Gene Givens, Greg Ringo, Steve Pruitt, Eddy Smith, Ronnie Pruitt, Jerry Broome, Johnny Pruitt and Terry Bishop. They are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 p.m. today.
