Luther Herbert Stevens, 85, 316 East Eighth St., died ( December 21, 1980) at 9:50 a.m. Sunday in a Rome hospital
following a brief illness. Mr. Stevens was born in Floyd County, Dec. 1, 1895, son of the late Robert G. and Martha Helms
Stevens. He was a member and deacon of Second Avenue Baptist Church. He was a member of Oostahaula Masonic Lodge 113 and a
veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a retired timekeeper with Anchor Rome Mills. His first wife Nora Rockett Stevens died in 1940 and was married to
the former Vera O'Connor, July 3, 1948.
Survivors are his widow, Vera O'Connor Stevens; one daughter, Mrs. John (LeEllen) Selma, Rome Route 1, Big Texas Valley
Road; one brother, Dewey Stevens, Jr., Rome Rte. 1; one brother Dewey Stevens, Sr., four grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the chapel of Talley Brothers Funeral Home with Dr. Haywood Day and
the Rev. William K. Holcomb officiating. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Herbert and Marvin Davis,
Dewey Stevens, Jr., Carroll and Don Watters and Roger Selman.
