Mrs. Lizzie Smith Dies at Son's Home; Funeral Set Monday
Mrs. Lizzie L. Smith, known to her friends as "Granny", died at the home of her son, James A. Smith on the Bluff Road, Saturday afternoon at 5:50. Mrs.
Smith had been in declining health for several years, her condition becoming serious three days ago.
Mrs. Smith was born in Scottsboro, Ala., June 15, 1877, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dee Phillips, and had been a resident of Floyd County for the
past 30 years. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Solomon P. Smith, September 4,
1950.
Surviving Mrs. Smith is one son, James A. Smith of Rome, Rte. 3; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Jackson and Mrs. Ella Phillips, both of Rome; four brothers,
John Phillips of Valley Head, Ala., Joe Phillips of Lookout Mountain, Jack Phillips, of Scottsboro, Ala., and Sam Phillips of Summerville. Four
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church, with the pastor Rev. J. O. Crabb and Rev.
W. F. Conn officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the adjoining cemetery.
The body will lie in state at Jennings Funeral Home until time for funeral services and pallbearers are requested to meet there at l:15 p.m. They include
Melvin Mixon, Sidney Trapp, Robbie Bowlin, Dewey Carver, Lamar Minter and Horace Molock.
