\f1 Mr. Stanley G. Payne, age 60, of 2 Pembroke Place, Rome, died Tuesday,September 28, 2004, at Floyd Medical Center following a sudden heart attack suffered earlier at his residence.

He was a member of the East Rome Gideon Camp where he served as vice president. He served as a Deputy Cornoner of Floyd County and had been named Deputy Coroner of the Year by the Georgia Coroner's Association.

Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Jo Wilson, to whom he was married Dec. 19, 1964; two daughters and son-in-law, Dedie and Stephen Padgett of Marietta and April Johanna Nichols of Cartersville; a son Rick Payne of Jacksonville, AL; his mother-in-law, Edith Langston Wilson of Shannon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edie and Randy Lloyd of Rome; Carol and Gary Gore of Summerville, SC., and Chipper and Cindy Wilson of Shannon ; and aunt, Mrs. Mary Will Bratcher of Rutledge.

Funeral services for Stanly G. Payne will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the North Rome Church of God with the Rev. Harold Jones, The Rev. Bert Brooks and the Rev. Kevin Lloyd officiating.

Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Mr. Payne will be taken to the North Rome Church of God where the family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. and will be placed in state at the church Friday at 1 p.m. to remain until time for services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the North Rome Church of God's Covenant to Care Campaign.
