Mr. Samuel Robert Vincent, age 70, of Silver Creek, passed away Sunday, March 7, 1999. Mr. Vincent was born June 13, 1928 in Floyd County. He was retired from the Floyd County Police Department where he served the county for 34 years. He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He served six and a half years as a Floyd County Commissioner and was an active member of the Floyd County Hospital board. He also served on the Floyd County Library board. Mr. Vincent was a member of Rome/Floyd County Optimist Club, Rome Exchange Club, American Legion and the Peace Officers Association of Georgia. He was a member of Second Avenue Baptist Church of Rome. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Vincent of Silver Creek, three sons, Kevin Vincent of Bethlehem, Randy Vincent of Rome, and Trent Vincent of Rome; a daughter Leah Silvey of Rome: two sisters, Ruth Vincent and Mary Vincent both of Rome; seven grandchildren; and three great grand children. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 9, in the Second Avenue Baptist Church with the Dr. Ken Ross officiating. Interment followed in Floyd Memory Gardens with full police honors by the Floyd County Police Department’s Honor Guard. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
