Death of An Old Settler

Mr. Thomas Lumpkin Aged Eighty-two, Died Last Night in Chulio District at eight o'clock last night Mr. Thomas Lumpkin died in his home in Chulio District about five miles from Rome.
The worthy man for many years held the office of justice of peace in his district. He died at the advanced age of eight-two and leaves 8 children, four sons and four daughters to mourn their loss.
Mr. Lumpkin was one of the early settlers of Floyd County, settling here 49 years ago. The funeral notice appears in another column.

Thomas Lumpkin appeared on the 1880 census in Chulio District, Floyd County, as being 73 and born in Maryland, father in Maryland and mother in North Carolina. His wife, Martha A., was 57, born GA, father born GA, mother South Carolina. Living with them were sons, Charles L. 22, and Hiram B. 16.)
