Mrs. Velma Lee Brooks, 78, of 1501 Old Summerville Road, died Sunday morning at a Rome hospital. Mrs. Brooks was born in
Chattooga County, July 12, 1909, daughter of the late James Monroe Headrick and Mary Magdeline Isham Headrick. She had spent
most of her life in Floyd county, was a member of the North Rome United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. Her husband
Robert B. Brooks to whom she was married Aug. 12, 1941, preceded her in death July 4, 1954. Survivors include one son, Henry
Brooks of Armuchee; two daughters, Mrs. Jean Durham, Marietta and Mrs. Eleanor Spurlin, Charlotte, N. C.; one sister, Mrs.
Sybil Reynolds of Rome; two stepsister, Mrs. Mary Humphries of the Riverside community and Mrs. Ann Blaylock, Rome; a brother
Hilton Headrick of Rome; one step-brother, Walter Evans, Chattanooga, Tenn.; five grand-children and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Talley Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Leland Bagwell
officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Talley Brothers Funeral Home where the
family will receive friends today from 7 until 9 p.m. and at other hours they will be the residence, 1501 Old Summerville
Road. Pallbearers are requested to meet at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Talley Brothers Funeral Home and they include, Ricky and
David Humphries, Tom Ivey, Earl Storey, Dr. Edwin Brooks, Norman Brooks, Cliff Eakers, and Dudley Rush. Talley Brothers
Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
