William "Bill" C. Bryan, Knoxville clothier, dies
William "Bill" C. Bryan, a long-time clothier in Knoxville, died Saturday after a lengthy illness. He was 86.
A native of Georgia, Mr. Bryan joined the John H. Daniel Co. in Rome, Ga., shortly after it was founded. He helped move the company to Knoxville in 1936.
Ten year later, after serving as a pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, Mr. Bryan bought John Daniel's interest in the company.
He later founded American Clothing Co., Cole Rich Clothing Co. and Hunter & Lords, Inc.
During World War II, Mr. Bryan was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals. He retired from the service with the rank of colonel.
He served on the board of directors for Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. He also served on the board of the Knoxville YMCA, and was a member of
Fountain City Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Bryan was preceded in death by this wife, Helen Benton Bryan. He is survived by sons, W. Coleman Bryan and Richard Bryan of Knoxville; and daughter,
Jan Hartley of Chattanooga.
Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday at Fountain City Presbyterian Church. Funeral services to follow.
Family and friends will meet at 11:45 a.m., Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery for a noon interment.
Memorials may be made to Fountain City Presbyterian Church or to Campus Crusade for Christ.
